Life ≪ Maiko’s meal and their necessities ≫

Hello this is Myako.

Here is Maiko’s everyday routine..
They practice dancing and some other things in the morning time then go to some Ochaya to say hello then it is time for lunch.
They start dressing up and making up around 3pm. After they done the make up, they have to keep it untill they finish working. They cannot really fix their make up middle of working,so they are really careful about.

Geiko and Maiko do not really have opportunity to eat at Ozashiki but they have early supper before going to work.
When they eat, there are some necessities for Maiko…which are Knife, fork, spoon, Tenugui(Japanese thin towel) and straw.

Tenugui is for covering Kimono so that it won’t get dirt. They cover collar as well because they put Oshiroi(white foundation) to their neck too.
Straw and spoon for drinking so that their rouge do not get off.
Maiko always carry long straw to drink pet bottle water outside.

The first thing Shikomi san(pre Maiko)have to learn is to prepare Tenugui and Straw and put them beside Maiko’s meal.
And as they start making up like Maiko, Mom of Okiya tell them that they have to open their mouth as wide as possible to eat one bite when they have something to eat at Okiya.
Even though it is Japanese food, they sometimes use fork and knife to cut into small pieces instead of chopsticks.

Well, I just now remember seeing Maiko eat with wide-open-mouth when they have supper at Okiya! That is why…
